Margate Sands and Beyond!

It is that time again, mid summer and the tides are right for our annual sail to Margate Sands, our very own Island sand bar. It is always a delight to reconquer the Margate Sands. The trip over was over was 30 mins of very close reaching. It was quicker than normal due to some really strong gusts whipping us along. We popped in a few tacks at the end to find a more shelter spot to land. James had prepared us well in his briefing. Ben in the first power boat took the lead, bringing the sailors into the bay safely. I always forget how quickly it shallows out here at sea. The sound of the wind in our sails, as we lowered our mains and dropped our anchors was tremendous. The water was thick and warm round our legs, the wind hugged us as it raced by. Margate shoreline sat way off in the distance, in pool of evening haze. We smiled and we ran! We always run like children to claim our land, our Margate Sands. It is so simple but so deliriously brilliant to be stranded at sea, surrounded by waves and pools of warming water, hosts to rich red seaweed and jelly fish, so many amber jelly fish. In the distance seals bath in the glow of the sun, seagulls swarm and corks pop from bottles of something fizzy, not the high quality beverages we sup at our wine tasting events no, more the pink fizzy plonk kinda vibe. We stop, we breath, we swig, we share, we selfie, we smile, we gaze (some of us do handstands) and before we know it, the sun begins to dip and the waters is at our feet and it is time to go! Sails and anchors are raised along with our spirits and once again we race for land. Margate you never cease to delight us, whichever way we look at you.....and as the North Cardinal protecting our very own Fulsome Rocks on Gormley Beach comes into view we know we are close to home. Until next time....
