New Spring Training Series: From Classroom to On the Water

This March we're running a new training series aimed at helping newer and improving sailors build confidence, understanding, and practical skills both ashore and afloat. Whether you're just starting out or looking to tighten up the basics, these sessions are designed to make sailing and racing feel clearer, calmer, and more enjoyable. All sailors are welcome.

Classroom Sessions Wednesday Evenings

The series begins with three Wednesday evening classroom sessions, each focusing on a key part of the sailing and racing process:

Wednesday 11 March Before You Go Afloat
This session looks at all the thinking and preparation that happens before you even leave the shore. We'll cover weather forecasts, course awareness, boat and personal prep, and how good planning can set you up for a better sail.

Wednesday 18 March From Launch to the Start Line
From leaving the slipway to positioning yourself on the start line, this evening focuses on practical tips to reduce stress and improve consistency. Topics include warm-up routines, time management, checking the line, and simple starting techniques.

Wednesday 25 March Start to the First Mark
The final classroom session looks at the critical first leg of the race. We'll cover key racing rules, right-of-way situations, wind shifts, tide awareness, and straightforward tactics to help you make better decisions between the start and the first mark.

These sessions are particularly aimed at newer and improver sailors, but they also offer a useful refresher for more experienced sailors wanting to revisit the fundamentals.

On the Water Putting It Into Practice

Following on from the classroom sessions, sailors will have the opportunity to take what they've learned and put it into practice on the water. These coached sessions are designed to be supportive and confidence-building, allowing sailors to try things out in real conditions.

Instructors will be on hand throughout to offer guidance, tips, and feedback, with full rescue cover provided. Sail at your own pace, ask questions, and focus on turning theory into practical experience in a relaxed and encouraging environment.

This combined classroom and on-the-water training is a great way to build skills, understanding, and confidence as the season gets underway we look forward to seeing you there
