What a hoot!!! The Wise and Wild Race 2025

This is a cup race where our youth sailor helm our instructors and adult racers. It is a fantastic way of bringing our youngest sailors and best racers and instructors together on the race course, we feast afterwards, laugh and share stories of the days racing. It is often our crews that are pushed to their limits by our bold and frankly WILD youth sailors. Race starts are frantic and often a little wet, with the youngest helms and their helpers on the National 18 lobbing seaweed at us all whilst a Lazer 2000 speeds by firing water at us as the horns sound taking us into the countdown. As the wind picks up so do the challenges and of course the whooping and shouting. Our newest young sailor unfortunately brought up more than his morning breakfast but somehow kept on sailing, thankfully not covering his crew in his breakfast. We witnessed some fantastic sea-person-ship, some brilliant behaviour at the windward mark, some great awareness of and use of racing rules and more importantly, we saw trust, friendship and respect blossom. This is my most favourite cup race of the season and one I brought to the table.
